Toyon

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyon
They claim that the Hills around Hollywood were named after the Toyon Bush/tree. In the 20's they were so popular that California passed a law forbidding the picking of the Christmas berries.

The picture posted of my bike and a toyon tree is along the 5 freeway and the Griffth Park bikeway. Most likely it was planted but along the whole path you will not find another.

I tasted the berry and it was a bit astringent and like an old apple where it starts to be starchy.

Patching the sun window

Last sunday I helped Eugene Patch the sun window on the Heritage house. We scraped it a little and added vinyl caulk. We painted it white and await the next storm to test it. Next is to patch the roof on the archive.

Went also to Big lots in Downtown. It is great they have a place to put you packages before shoping. I bought a package of beef Jerky for $2.80 for 3.5 oz of the stuff. Usually beef jerky (not chopped) is over $1.00 an oz....
